About This Blog

Is the Vagabond Librarian really a librarian?

I am currently about 78% librarian, but Vagabond Librarian-in-Training just didn't sound right. I am a Library and Information Science student who has a passion for people, a love of books, and an aversion to quiet. I hold a B.A. in English Literature and have spent most of my adult life teaching--teaching English to High School students; life skills to adults; and the Hokey Pokey to preschoolers.  I am mother to an amazingly ridiculous eleven-year-old and am married to an active duty Infantryman. We move every few years, so I have taken job opportunities where they've come, learning amazing lessons along the way. Every place I've lived, everywhere I've worked, the library has played an important role in my life. I treasure the unique personality the libraries that are really in tune with their communities possess--and I treasure the friendships I have made through library connections.

Throughout years of thinking about what I want to do when I grow up, I always come back to the same answer, "I want to be a Librarian." So, here I am.

What will I find here?

You will find my thoughts about my journey through library school, including reflections on my coursework, reactions to current news stories, and my ever-developing opinion on the subject of information science. You will also find, sometimes, my thoughts on military life, motherhood, and volunteerism--all of which are important to me.

This blog is not only about sharing and reflecting, it has also become about collecting the components I will need to include in my online School Media Specialist graduation portfolio. While the format and location of these components will eventually become separate from this blog, this is a good place for me to share these elements now.
